TEACHING AND LEARNING COORDINATOR

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It has been a busy and a productive semester! During this semester, staff have concentrated on developing a ‘Positive Learning Culture’ in our students. We have emphasized the importance of students accepting responsibility for their learning. We have emphasized the need for staff and students to work together as learning partners. The majority of students have settled well into their studies and have tried their best at school. Staff have worked diligently in assisting students achieve to the best of their abilities. Thank you also to parents and students for their excellent support in accomplishing these achievements. I would like to discuss a few important changes that you will see in our school reporting system.

Homework

All homework components, for example, Home Reading, Reading Eggs activities, Mathletics tasks, Maths Plus/Homework contracts, Homework Booklets will be marked out of 2 each on SEQTA. It is very important that students complete all of their weekly assigned tasks. For instance, if a teacher is marking a student for Mathletics weekly homework, following key will be used to mark the Mathletics homework and the same key applies to all other components as well.

2- Student has completed all weekly assigned tasks on Mathletics.
1-Student has few incomplete weekly tasks on Mathletics.
0-Student didn’t make an attempt to do weekly Mathletics homework.

Reports

Our Semester 1 reports will be ready by the end of the first week of school holidays and they will be mailed to you during the term break. Please inform the school if you have changed your address. Sirius College has changed the format of the reports; we are moving away from the comments and will focus on different outcomes from the Australian Curriculum. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to discuss it with your child’s teacher at the beginning of Term 3 by booking an appointment as there will be no Parent Teacher Meetings in Term 3.

Lastly, on behalf of the staff of Sirius College, I wish you an enjoyable, peaceful and relaxing vacation. The three-week holiday is an ideal opportunity for students to refresh their minds, reflect on what they have achieved so far and start planning for Term 3.

We look forward to seeing everyone’s eager and cheery faces in the next term.

Best wishes!
Mrs. Amninder Malhi
